One of the most common questions we get from homeowners across West Plains and Howell County is — when should I schedule my house wash? The honest answer is that you can have your house soft washed any time of year, but some seasons deliver better results and longer-lasting cleanliness than others.
The Best Time: Spring
Late spring — roughly April through June — is the ideal window for house washing in Missouri. Here's why it makes the most sense:
- Winter is over and pollen, mold, and algae that built up over winter get cleared in one visit
- Temperatures are mild — cleaning solutions work best between 50°F and 90°F
- You go into summer with a clean house that's ready for outdoor entertaining
- Mold and algae haven't had a full growing season yet so they're easier to remove
Spring is our busiest season for a reason — homeowners see what winter left behind and want it gone before summer.
Second Best: Early Fall
September and October are also excellent. The summer heat has passed, conditions are comfortable to work in, and cleaning before winter means your siding goes into the cold months free of mold and algae that would otherwise continue growing under cold, damp conditions.
Can You Wash in Winter?
You can, with some limitations. Soft wash solutions need temperatures above freezing to work properly — if it's below 40°F, the chemistry slows down significantly. We can work through most Missouri winters, but we'll reschedule if temperatures are too low to guarantee a proper clean.
Can You Wash in Summer?
Absolutely. Summer is a perfectly fine time to have your house washed — the heat actually helps the cleaning solutions work faster. The main consideration is making sure surfaces don't dry out too quickly in direct sunlight before the solution has time to work, which is something we account for in our process.
The Real Answer: When You Notice It Needs It
The best time to wash your house is when you can see it needs it. If you're looking at green or black streaks on your siding in July, don't wait until spring. The longer mold and algae sit on your siding, the deeper they get into the surface and the harder they are to remove.
